Walk 2 - Drum

Date: Febuary 3rd
Destination : drum (northern Carneddau)

After a month since my last walk I was itching to get out but have recently been unable to so. I decided a day off college was fair with the snow capped views from home drawwing me in. I decided on Drum and probably Foel Fras from the upper car park above Aberfalls (SH676717).

I started the walk at about 10 after a bit of a push from some other gents doing the same root over a particularly badly placed sheet of ice. I set out on the path leading east with some antastice views over towards Anglesey and the Menai straits. The snow line edging nearer with ever step.

The view looking up at Foel Ganol.

View towards Anglesey (though the pylons do somewhat distract from the beauty).

You follow the path untill you reach a fairly obvious junction that even has an old wooden signpost. At ths point you turn inland and head up hill.

Looking back down to the cross roads

a view up the path after the cross roads and finally in amongst the snow.

The path then continues to wind up towards Drum and Foel Fras. As I climbed the path becasme more and more snow and ice covered with sections of the path that I had to walk around.

What a beautifull day Drum (left) Foel Fras (right)

Crampon time!

Upon reaching this rather nice section of ice I decided to don crampons, my timing was good as the snow suddenly got an awfull lot deeper after this with some solid sections though progress wasn't particulatly easy.

I carried on from Drum towards Foel Fras but after a flouder and play in the snow until I decided to call it a day and headed back over Drum and down the way I had came.

All in all this was a fantastic day out (though a bit nippy). On the way back down I met up with my dad after heading off the path to Pen Bryn - Ddu then walked out back to the car together. Hopefully my next day out wont be as big a wait.
